I'm not certain if the statue to The Old Nite still exists

"From just our initial RuneScape gold conversations we realized that Brendan is a fan of Jagex's idea of community-driven games and is doing a wonderful job of creating a healthy and vibrant crowd within Melvor Idle. It's not often that you find this kind of natural match in the search for publishing opportunities, but Brendan along with Melvor Idle are exactly that, so we jumped at the chance to work with him and the game with all our heart.

He says: "We like to say that If RuneScape is the MMO which can be played while watching television, Melvor is the idle game that can be enjoyed while playing RuneScape. Melvor Idle takes RuneScape's core gameplay mechanics, and condenses them into bite-sized games that can be enjoyed regardless of the duration and so RuneScape players will feel right at the right place in Melvor. For all its fierce competitiveness, RuneScape isn't just a small group of people. Yes, it is this ... but just like every other community, the RuneScape players is able to come together and help each other out in some shining moments that are worthy of knightly honor often portrayed in movies.

The most significant act has to be on the part of the developer Jagex who dedicated an on-game sculpture (and later, a pub) to honor the memory of a famous player named 'The Old Nite", who tragically died from real life in. He was active from RuneScape's inception in 2001 and frequently played as the second-highest ranking player, only after Zezima.

Based on alleged activity on his profile post-2006, a myth circulated claiming it was true that he was alive however, this was claimed to be the result of hackers temporarily getting access to his account that was locked. While neither are substantiated in any way, this virtual equivalent of a ghost tale does illustrate another cool thing about MMORPGs: bits of lore can be created about gamers who play them.

I'm not certain if the statue to The Old Nite still exists, but it stood near the southern end of the Wilderness (or "Wildy" as it's known for short) which is a vast expanse of wasteland located in north, frequented in the past by beasts and player-killers. I've never made the trek to visit it. What a pity.

Its most significant flaw, which could also be its greatest benefit, is one used by nearly every other MMORPG: sheer longevity. In between the exhilarating PvP combat and high-octane quests is the continual grinding of everyday household chores such as buy RS gold cooking, mining, or fishing to increase your level or gain credits to purchase that new helmet or piece of armor. Gotta make money somehow, right?
