Some fair points made in this article, particularly aboutOSRS GP the need to eliminate large chunks of the game and the insanity of huge goals for content. However, I would disagree with your quest point that it was an issue in the past, but it isn't any more that a player at 70+ is able to complete every quest. The quests motivate me to improve my capabilities. This is important since I've observed a significant improvement in the skills I need to acquire. The quest cape requires 76 defense, constitution and mining crafting and woodcutting, 77 attack and strength as well as 80 magical. The smithing skill is 74. thieving and firemaking.
None of them are boostable in any way, and at the high level, they take perhaps two times as long than the requirements of less than 70. Each of them is a sequel to quests which I have achieved easily at 70ish statistics. This is why I think runescape pushes players into more work in specific areas. That doesn't seem to be right.
I'd prefer to see that skills like dungeoneering require skill (and perhaps a team which I believe is a powerful and interesting concept) and later see these principles applied in other things. Agility can be more enjoyable and enjoyable if it was skill-based, and you could be skilled in obtaining the highest xp rate.
This update would not necessarily make the game more fun, but it would reduce the amount of time required to complete. Like you mentioned, the game itself is quite simple. It just takes too long. It is possible to make the game more challenging, but also more efficient. This will lead to a much better experience.
To be honest, I'm not sure, I don't really like the grind either, which Jagex is coming out with EoC to (hopefully) solve the issue. EoC is perfect for me personally. I only want EoC to be able to degrade swifts and goliaths. GF everyone who got an axe, right?
The main issue is just that, what can you do to stop the grind? A high-level game that grants you more XP but is also instanced would be the best option. You won't get crashed to death. It's like Dungeoneering. The high-level content could either a) provide you with food/pots or b) givebuy RS gold you enough money to buy food/pots. They just need to make sure that it's not bottable, and I think it could be a success.
