Bales began the season with a 72-30 record as of last season, and his 22-4 (9-0 in the Mid Eastern Conference) mark the best he's had to date. The Vikings have lost two of their key players with the departure of Mallory Cross and Abby Thornburgh from the group, however Bales' team was tasked with replacing them. Bales' team was assigned this season to replace their 14.5 score, 6.8 rebound along with 5.4 assists per game.
However, Blue River still has senior center Ally Madden, one of the best players in the region's interior as well as sharpshooting junior Maci Chamberlin, and a solid depth around them to make an appearance in another event.
While four consecutive titles in the sectional championship would break the school's record in the process, the Vikings still have some way to go towards being a definitive postseason contender.
"I do not know, because we're still in the process of growing. I'm hoping we'll become a team that's capable of accomplishing this. I don't believe we're at that point yet," Bales said of the team's chance at the sectional championship. "We've got to learn how protect better ... take care not to make mistakes that aren't forced. There's a lot of growing to do. Certainly (a sectional title) is where we'd like to end up."
While four consecutive titles in the sectional championship would break the school's record but they Vikings still have much to do to be a solid postseason contender.
"I don't know because we're still in the process of growing. I hope we can become a team that's capable of doing this. I don't believe we're yet there," Bales said of the team's chance at being a champion in the sectional tournament.
